Mohamed Zidan signs permanent contract with Werder Bremen till 2008
Bremen, the German League and Cup champions secured Mohamed Zidan untill
2008 Tuesday evening, as he signed a permanent contract with the
North-German club.
That means that the loan-deal he was on since the 7th of January is now
terminated, and his old club FCM will recieve a reported 3.8 million
Euro for the deal. Werder Bremen allready paid FCM 800.000 Euro when the
loan deal was made, and now they will pay another 3 million for Zidan's
services.
The money will be divided between FC Midtjylland, the investors, and
Zidan's first club in Denmark, the now relegated Akademisk Boldklub (AB).
Klaus Allofs made no secret about his and Werder's desire to secure a long
term deal with Zidan when he joined Bremen in January. Then, he said that
"[Bremen] has interest in cooperating with the player for the next 4½
years."
Yesterday evening he made good of his words, and Zidan will now be scoring
goals in green/white for the next couple of years to come. Klaus Allofs
said today : "Mohamed Zidan has been very unlucky with the injury during
his first weeks with us. But he has showed us the great potential he
has. We're certain that he continues his good development here, and that
he will become an asset for our team."
Although the deal officially underlines the end of his FCM career, it
doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. FCM's sports director Jens Orgaard
allready hinted that a deal was on the way. A couple of weeks ago, he said
that he expects the permanent deal to be signed by march-april.
Zidan injured his right ankle in the last training game before the start
of the Bundesliga season. He was supposed to be out for 2 months, but was
rushed in after only 3½ weeks because of a shortage of strikers. He scored
in that game after 9 minutes on the pitch, and in the next after 2 minutes
on the pitch, but his injury is still bothering him, as it didn't heal
properly yet.
Zidan hopes for a quick recovery and continues special training, but the
Werder medical staff has not ruled out an operation if the injury doesn't
get better soon.
